The auction—hosted by Chiru Labs, creators of the Azuki brand—allowed people to place bids in Ethereum to secure one of eight skateboards, and amassed $2.5 million in ETH. Each of the skateboards is plated in 24 karat gold and weighs 45 pounds, according to Chiru Labs, which recommends that owners not try to ride them. The highest bidder paid just over $400,000 for one of the skateboards, compared to around $260,000 for the lowest successful bid. Chiru Labs says that there were 145 total bids on the skateboards.

In a tweet, an NFT investor pointed out several issues surrounding OpenRarity, the new rarity ranking protocol implemented by NFT marketplace OpenSea. According to the community member, putting “rank” in the NFT listing with no mention of “rarity” anywhere could be misleading. Days after the feedback, the NFT marketplace made some revisions to the ranking system. At the moment, NFT listings now show “rarity rank” instead of just the rank. In addition to this, the NFT marketplace has also added a trait count within the ranking methodology and a way to sort items with unique attributes before applying any additional information that elevates its rank.
