Shiba Inu developers said in an introductory post that Shibarium would be focused on the metaverse and gaming applications, especially as they expect the NFT sector to heat up in the coming years and to launch beta on the Layer-2 network. The imminent launch of the Shibarium may contribute to strong fundamentals for Shiba Inu to position itself as a serious project on its own blockchain network and further bolster the fundamental of the three tokens on its ecosystem, $SHIB, $LEASH, and $BONE. Developers also announced that each transaction on Shibarium will burn a certain amount of SHIB tokens, but the amount has not been decided yet.

NFT influencer named NFT God has shared that every crypto account connected to him, both personal and professional, has been hacked. Hours later — after a series of phishing tweets posted by the attackers on Twitter, he realized that the malware was downloaded from the sponsored Google advertisement. He has lost at least 19 ETH worth nearly $27,000, a MAYC NFT worth $25,000, and multiple other NFTs. A report from January 12 shows that this wasn't the first time Google Ads has delivered malware. Cybersecurity firm Cyble has already warned of an information-stealing malware called "Rhadamanthys Stealer" being spread through Google Ads. Google has yet to comment on this situation but said it "actively works with trusted advertisers and partners to help prevent malware in ads."

Instagram being one of the largest social media platforms with around 2 billion monthly active users, NFT artists including Micah johnson, Drifter Shoots, and Refik Anadol, have successfully dropped NFT projects on Instagram and sold out quickly. Meta's expansion of offering NFTs on Instagram and granting the ability to showcase users' NFTs encouraged the platform to allow select digital artists to begin minting and selling NFTs directly on Instagram. Select NFT projects sold out quickly and helped bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 users. So far, Instagram's approach to Web3 has shown promise for other Web2 brands looking to make the jump. It highlights how NFTs and other crypto assets can be used to expand business offerings and provide an accessible entry point for Web3-curious consumers without isolating the Web3 natives that have supported the NFT market all along.
